Coastal Cleanup Day, an event with humble beginnings in coastal Oregon in 1985, has blossomed into an international event with hundreds of thousands of volunteers participating annually. While the event shifted to a virtual-only event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 saw the event return to in-person volunteering with virtual options.
Orange County Coastkeeper served as both the regional coordinator for the county and site captain at a cleanup at tower 8 in Huntington State Beach.

These volunteers not only worked to clean up our communities but also collected data along the way that is used by the Ocean Conservancy to track global waste in our oceans and to influence land managers and policymakers alike.
Events like ours do not exist without the support of our sponsors and our community. This year’s event sponsors were Blue Triton, the Irvine Ranch Water District, the City of Santa Ana, and the City of La Habra. Their support ensures that we are able to coordinate this large event and surplus funds go to support our monthly beach cleanup program.
