Orange County Coastkeeper Brings Local Industry, Government and Thought Leaders Together To Celebrate Clean Water

Clean water leaders to enjoy live reggae, silent and live auctions at Back Bay Bistro

ORANGE COUNTY, September 8, 2015 – Tickets are now on sale for Orange County Coastkeeper’s annual event, Toast the Coast, which joins those passionate about sustainable waters. This year, Coastkeeper celebrates its 16th anniversary and toasts the people keeping local waters clean and the businesses that believe in a sustainable Orange County.

Held on September 17 at Back Bay Bistro in the Newport Dunes Resort, guests enjoy cocktails, appetizers, live music from reggae group PANJIVE Steel Drum Entertainment and silent and live auctions. This year’s live auction items include an oceanfront seven-bedroom villa in Puerto Vallarta and a Pedego Electric bike.

“Toast the Coast 2015 is a cost effective opportunity to ensure clean, healthy water in Orange County and show your community you believe in giving back,” says Orange County Coastkeeper’s Associate Director Ellen Brown. “From our local tourism industry to big corporations, every business relies on a clean water source. Coastkeeper keeps Orange County’s waters and economy flowing, especially in this time of severe drought.”

Last year, Toast the Coast raised $140,000 in support of Coastkeeper’s mission and programs. This year’s major sponsors include SA Recycling, Chevron, Advanced Real Estate Services, Southern California Edison and Contech Engineered Solutions. All proceeds from Toast the Coast go toward protecting and promoting fishable, swimmable, drinkable and sustainable water in Orange County.

Some of Coastkeeper’s most notable accomplishments include restoring kelp, eelgrass and abalone; cleaning up the Rhine Channel; establishing and monitoring Marine Protected Areas; collaborating with scrap metal yards to prevent pollution from running into our storm water drains and assisting local residents and businesses in their transition to drought-tolerant landscaping through Coastkeeper’s SmartScape program.
