Community Science Projects

We manage three research projects that monitor human activity at Orange County beaches. They are Marine Protected Area Watch, Santa Ana River Mouth Monitoring Project, and Aliso Creek Berm Buddies. Each program researches different areas along the coastline with different goals in mind.

This is the perfect opportunity for anyone passionate about community science and seeking a flexible, long-term commitment. After being trained by our staff, you’ll have the freedom to conduct surveys and collect important data on your own schedule. Join us and contribute to research that makes a difference where you live and play!

Kids Ocean Day

Kids Ocean Day is an annual event designed to engage students from communities facing barriers to coastal access and disproportionate environmental pollution. This program empowers the next generation to value and protect our environment through conservation and advocacy. In 2024, 1,000 elementary students from inland Orange County joined us in Huntington Beach, collectively removing over 300 pounds of trash from the coast. This one-day event happens every May and requires dozens of volunteers to pull off successfully!
